What Is Picot Elastic
Picot elastic is a type of elastic trim characterized by a small looped or scalloped edge along one side. It’s commonly used in sewing projects where a stretchy yet decorative edge is desired, such as lingerie, underwear, swimwear, and other garments requiring elasticated edges. The picot edge adds a decorative touch while also providing elasticity, allowing the fabric to stretch comfortably.
Picot elastic is available in various widths and colours to suit different sewing projects. It’s typically made from a blend of elastic fibres such as spandex or rubber and is often covered with a fabric casing for comfort against the skin.
In sewing, picot elastic is applied by attaching it to the edge of the fabric using a zigzag stitch on a sewing machine. This allows the fabric to maintain its stretchiness while providing a neat and finished edge.
